6th Food Technology & Safety Congress 2012

Background

There is always a long journey to take between garden to table. In the past 30years, most emphasis has been put on production and processing instead of the other stages such as planting, breeding, logistics and distribution, which play equally important roles in food safety and quality. Compared with food production, the rest stages in the food supply chain are less centralized and controllable, thus can accumulate higher risks in food safety and quality.

Among the food safety issues arising recently, many cases are actually not caused by the food product manufacturer but its raw material supplier. In order to change the situation and take a proactive strategy, companies such as Cofco, Mengniu and Shuanghui have extended their business toward upper streams, which helps them closely supervise the raw material quality from cultivation to packing and transportation. Through this value chain integration strategy, food manufacturers can eliminate the hazards and risks caused by the source of food supply chain.

This year’s 6th annual food safety and quality congress, different from our previous ones, will dig deep into the problems and challenges faced by companies placed in different sectors of the entire value chain of food industry. The conference is divided into three parts, respectively focusing on how to ensure food safety and quality from the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the entire supply chain. Leading companies from these three sectors will share their strategies and best practices of food safety assurance “from garden to table”.
